Top Ten House Plants If you can't keep houseplants, the most
likely thing that's going wrong is that you are killing them with
kindness. Unless your house is very dark, most houseplants will
be happier inside the room on the table, than on the windowsill
above a radiator, at risk from too much sun and cold draughts.
In winter, you don't need to water most plants more than once
a month, unless they are in a very warm light spot. Try not to
leave plants standing in water. In the summer, don't water till
the surface of the compost feels dry. One handy trick is to use
a gadget like the 'Water Alert' which you stick into the pot next
to the plant. It changes colour when it's time to water. It's
easy to over feed houseplants, too, so it's better to use a slowly
dissolving pellet feed like the 'Houseplant Booster Pill'. You
can order these and the 'Water Alert' from our online shop.
